With winter almost upon us, we share our dealer survival guide for ensuring that your customers (and profit margins) remain protected over the festive period, including good business practises and practical tips for keeping your customers on the road. So without further ado, here is part three of three – if you missed part two you can read it here.  We hope you enjoy our guide.

Sales will inevitably start to slow down during the winter, and you have two options to increase your profit. Either you can get into a price war with your competitors which will reduce what little margin you’ll make on the vehicle even further – or you can choose to be smart and add tremendous value instead, meaning that you wouldn’t need to discount so heavily. For those of you that choose the latter option, customers are likely to be so impressed that they will refer your business to their friends and family, and will almost certainly be guaranteed to come back for future repair/service work – PLUS you’ll be helping to address your stock shortage by guaranteeing that they part-exchange their vehicle with you.

We are of course referring to Safe and Sound’, the ultimate motoring package worth £500 but offered to car buyers free of charge. The scheme includes seven valuable elements to take care of the common buyer worries. These elements are:

  • A sixty point safety inspection to rule out any accident causing defects
  • Full provenance check which ensures it doesn’t have a hidden past
  • A six month wear and tear car warranty which covers all of the mechanical and electrical items against expensive repair bills*
  • Six month UK rescue and recovery which includes home and roadside repairs and assistance, plus onward destination
  • Mileage verification to ensure that the vehicle hasn’t been clocked
  • Independent valuation which shows that customers are paying a fair price
  • And finally the buy-back promise meaning that you guarantee to buy the vehicle back, regardless of its age, mileage and condition which customers can use as part payment on their next vehicle.

Whilst it sounds like it would be expensive, dealers are only paying us for the warranty and recovery elements so it’s actually surprisingly affordable. In return you will benefit from the ‘Safe and Sound’ brand and endorsement of Sir Stirling Moss on the point-of-sale materials and in your marketing materials – and more importantly, you’ll receive many new customers as a result of our extensive consumer marketing campaign, which is continuing to drive footfall into our dealerships. As Garry Scholz from Kings Chrysler (Sytner dealer) commented recently: “As a ‘Safe and Sound’ dealer, we find the warranty cover to be equivalent to that of the manufacturers’ warranties, and the prices are very competitive too.”

John Sugg, Dealer Principal of West Country Cars in Yeovil also stated: “If you want a warranty company that will work with you and help promote your business then talk to the team at ‘Safe and Sound’. They are helpful, informative and above all professional – and having Stirling’s endorsement really helps with promotions and at the point of sale.”

Perhaps most impressively though is a £5,000 profit made in just one month by Dunecht 4×4 on ‘Safe and Sound’ 18 month warranty upgrades alone! If you missed that particular post, you can read it here.

Ninety dealerships are currently offering the scheme but we are still looking for more that put customer care at the very center of their businesses. If you are looking to work with a company that do what they say they will then request your FREE ‘Safe and Sound’ dealer pack here and learn how your margins will not only remain protected, but also be increased this winter. Remember that ‘Safe and Sound’ is limited to one dealership per town, so you’ll need to act quickly if you would like to offer it to your customers!

*Wear and tear applies to vehicles up to 6 years and 60,000 miles at the policy inception date that have not exceeded 85,000 miles at the time of claim. Vehicles that have exceeded these parameters that are up to 10 years and 100,000 miles at the purchase date will receive the Five Star plan which still covers all of the mechanical/electrical items, but minus the wear & tear cover. Note that service items are specifically excluded.
